Photojax 2013 (originally published Jan 27, 2013)

Its been a great week-end for taking in top notch photography in Jacksonville.  Photojax, an annual photography festival in its second year, kicked things off outside MOCA Friday night.  From thousands of Instagramentries, Photojax selected 500 and randomly displayed them on four large screens.  In conjunction with Photojax, MOCA hosted an opening for their latest exhibition “SLOW”.  “SLOW” is a photography, film and video exhibition.  The exhibition is really worth seeing.  When viewing, it quickly becomes apparent from where the title “SLOW” derives.  This exhibition is a nice follow-up and complement to last year’s very excellent “Shared Vision” exhibition.

Saturday afternoon, Photojax sponsored an open house at the CoRKArts District.  CoRK stands for corner of King and Rosselle which not surprisingly is where CoRK is located in the Riverside neighborhood.  The former industrial building re-purposed, houses a community of artists’ studios and otherwise is not open to the public.  Its a really interesting facility and still in its infancy as its only been operating a year.  In addition to viewing some engaging photography displayed throughout the walls of the facility, we peeked into a number of the studios to see what was cooking.  A whole host of mediums are represented.
